Angelique Kerber in Tokio semifinals
Stuttgart. Angelique Kerber is playing better and better on the run-in to the end of the season. Competing at the WTA Premier 5 event in Tokio, the Porsche Team Germany player won 6-4, 6-4 against the Pole Agnieszka Radwanska to advance to the semifinals of a tournament for the first time in five months. On Friday, she will face the former world No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki from Denmark for a place in the final.Having lost her previous three meetings against Agnieszka Radwanska, her win in the quarterfinals was the 25-year-old German’s first for three years against the world No. 4. It means Angelique Kerber, who beat the former world No. 1 Ana Ivanovic (Serbia) in the last 16, has reached the semifinals of a tournament for the first time since the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in April. The success at the 2.3 million dollar hard court tournament has ensured her not only a place in the world’s top 10 and has also increased her chances of qualifying for the WTA Championships in Istanbul, the season-ending highlight for the season’s eight most successful players.
